A woman has been fined £15,000, ordered to pay £1,260.50 court costs and a £120 victim surcharge for illegally feeling trees in a bid to increase the value of her home. Marilyn Barnes wanted to sell her Lake District home quickly, but for the best possible price. Her home in Arnside, Cumbria, was lacking a desired view of an estuary and the Lakeland Fells so she had 27 trees that were in the way chopped down; allowing her to raise the asking price of her four-bedroomed semi-detached house by £26,000.

European Tree of the Year

We have a passion for trees here at Myers Tree Care, working as a tree surgeon Stockport, that’s a given really, but even we were a bit taken aback when we found out that there is actually a competition for the European Tree of the Year! We think it’s a brilliant way to appreciate the beauty of trees and England, Scotland and Wales are amongst 11 other countries hoping to top the poll.

Professional Pruning

Do you think it’s time for a little bit of tree pruning? Have you spotted your trees looking a little unkempt or damaged, and you feel as if some tidying up is in order? The best time for tree pruning is of course late fall or winter, though dead branches are able to be removed any time of year and generally are best done away with at the soonest possible opportunity. We think it’s certainly cold enough that you could be forgiven for mistaking this early February spring for last year’s winter months, so why not look into a bit of tree pruning?
