Myers Tree Care in Manchester

Dear Elm…

So, working as a tree surgeon in Manchester, we thought we knew everything there is to know about trees, but there was a recent article in the Guardian that had us questioning all we knew about the world of trees.

In the Australian city of Melbourne, residents can actually exchange emails with every one of the 70,000 trees that line the streets and parks in the centre of the city. Nope, we are not making this up. Obviously, the trees themselves are not taking their branches to the computer keyboard and writing back to the residents, but city council workers are on hand to respond to the emails.

Each tree is assigned a unique identification code so you can email them individually. It was initially set up so you could learn about the tree and so residents could report things like damaged branches or vandalism, however an outpouring of devotion has occurred which has seen people emailing in writing about how much they love the individual trees in the city.

And we thought we were the only ones obsessed with trees here at Myers! We wonder if that kind of thing would work here in Manchester. It might be a good idea for us, as a tree surgeon Manchester specialist, to be aware of which trees need to be felled or trimmed, but we’re not sure how much love the Manchester trees would get from the public. Still, it might be a good idea for the future!
